Third row comfort is where the Carens genuinely separates itself in this segment. Adults can sit there for 3 to 4 hour highway stretches without the experience becoming something to endure — that is not something you can say about most 7-seaters at this price. The Scorpio N's third row, by comparison, works better as occasional seating than as a genuine seat for grown passengers on longer runs.
The 1.5-litre diesel manual is the right engine for a fully loaded car on the highway. Fuel efficiency in the 17 to 20 km/l range with all seats occupied is a real number, not a best-case figure, and that matters when you are moving a full family regularly.
The one area that needs attention before buying — AC cooling to the third row is weak in variants that do not have dedicated rear vents. In Indian summers, the difference between a variant with rear AC vents and one without is significant when the back two seats are occupied. Check which variant you are considering and make sure the vents are there. It is not a deal breaker but it is the kind of thing that becomes a daily complaint if you miss it at the time of purchase.
