2026 Maruti Baleno Facelift Spotted; May Launch Expected

New design, upgraded tech, and possible hybrid power could boost the Maruti Baleno against rivals like the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz

Maruti has begun testing its 2026 facelifted Baleno model in India. The hatchback has been sighted on public roads. The facelifted model will be launched sometime this year and is said to bring some design tweaks and mechanical improvements.

Updated Design

The test mule is heavily camouflaged, but there are some clear changes that can be seen even under camouflage. The shape of the car remains mostly unchanged, which is common in facelifts.

On the front fascia, there is a new grille that looks wider and sharper. There are also some modifications made to the headlamps and the front bumper. The side panels remain the same, but there are new alloy wheels.

Changes to the rear panel are subtle. The new Baleno carries the same rear glass as the outgoing model. There are some changes to the bumper, and the tail lights could be updated as well.

Cabin Upgrades

Details of the interior are yet to be disclosed, but the chances of any major modifications are minimal. Rather, the focus for Maruti Suzuki will be on upgrading the cabin with better quality materials and upholstery.

Upgrades can include the addition of new comfort-oriented features, infotainment, and connectivity options to make the Baleno more premium than its peers.

Hybrid Powertrain?

Another feature that could make the Baleno even more special would be a strong hybrid powertrain, coupled with the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine borrowed from the Maruti Suzuki Swift. In international test cycles, it is shown that a strong hybrid in this segment can deliver a mileage of 35 km/l to 40 km/l.

Maruti will also retain the current DualJet petrol engine in the new model. Other engines that could find their way into the car include the turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine from the Maruti Suzuki Fronx range.

Competition

The Baleno has maintained its position as one of the best-sellers for Maruti Suzuki, selling around 15,000–20,000 units each month. It is still the leader in the premium hatchback category and manages to outshine competitors such as the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz.

However, competition will increase in the coming days, as a next-generation version of the i20 is waiting in the wings.

What’s in Store?

Equipped with new design features and strong hybrid options, the 2026 facelift Baleno is prepared for more challenges in the automobile market.
